Designed in a neo-classical style by noted architect James Wyatt and built in 1773 as the new seat of the de Vesci family, Abbeyleix House (sometimes called Abbeyleix Castle) is considered one of the most historically important houses in Ireland. The village of Abbeyleix was re-constructed in tandem with this imposing three-storey house, and was the oldest planned estate town in Ireland.
Scope
Extensive renovations and upgrade works were commissioned by the new owners. These included the removal of existing roof coverings, upgrade and restructure of existing timber carcass. We then installed new felt battens and a new ventilation system.
All valleys and dormers were upgraded with Code 8 lead, lead hips and ridges finished with copper clippings. The pitched roofs were re-covered with new Penhryn 500 x 300 County Grade slates.
Finally, decorative cast mold works were designed and installed to add the period-appropriate finishing touches.
